Stars got racy in their respective red carpet looks this week -- and some more than others.

It seems like Rita Ora forgot to look in the mirror before leaving home. The singer hit the red carpet wearing ... lingerie. Nonetheless, she rocked it with no shame.

"Quantico" star Priyanka Chopra was a stunner in blue at a UNICEF event. The actress paired the figure-hugging dress with a sexy red lip.

Of course, Ashley Graham oozed sex appeal at a Sport's Illustrated event, wearing a sequined pink-and-black frock. The model flashed major cleavage in the tight number.

Global market review of lingerie

NEW YORK, Dec. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2016 edition of this long-standing report provides - as ever - the complete retail market statistics and forecasts for the global lingerie market. This edition also focuses on the US and Chinese markets, analyses lingerie's supply chain and provides market shares for key brands and retailers.

Report extracts:

The report estimates the world lingerie retail market value for 2016 at US$29.57bn. Europe accounts for US$11.67bn of the total, and North America for US$7.93bn. Together they have a combined share of 66.3% of the world total. The percentage share held by Asia is 20.4%, and the combined share of South America and the rest of the World is 13.3%.

Brands (retail or manufacturer) resonate with consumers because they trust them. They trust them for fit and hence they are loyal to them. Therefore, hanging on to brands that the consumer believes in is vital. Hanes have done it very well in both North America and Europe with different brand names. Triumph have done it well in both Europe and Asia with the same names.

The world bra market for 2016 is worth US$16.42bn. Bras account for 55.5% of the world lingerie market. Europe and North America together have a combined percentage share of 68.7%. This exceeds the percentage share of lingerie as a whole, and indicates that bras are less important as a woman's purchase in the other continental regions. In unit terms, bra sales are 1596m units per year.

The future of distribution lies in organised retail. The dis-organised markets in the developing world are being eroded. That means for a brand being stocked in well-known retailers and for a retailer having either own brands or manufacturer brands that are trusted. The decisions on what to stock, either going forwards up the supply chain, of backwards down it, is one of the most important decisions to be made in this business.

The world briefs market is quantified in US$ billions value for 2016 at US$9.90bn. This represents 33.5% of the total lingerie market. In unit terms, briefs sales are 5260m units per year.

Would you buy underwear from Lidl? Supermarket launches premium range of lingerie

Budget supermarket Lidl is pulling out all the stops this Christmas with the launch of its new premium range of... underwear.

The popular chain will soon start stocking a new collection which includes "delicate lace detail and intricate prints".

The new luxury brand called Esmara Premium may have all the thrills when it launches in-store on December 18 but it won't break the bank - making it the perfect last minute stocking filler.

The supermarket already stocks a basic range.

The range consists of five pieces and is available in various styles which are hoped to make customers feel "exceptional from top to bottom" for as little as £10.

Supermarket bosses are hoping that the new range will fly off the shelves at the same time as their lobster, turkey and mince pie deals.

Lace Camisole	5.99 (2 for £10)

Survey asks Japanese women for the details of their “showdown lingerie”

When you’ve got a big day ahead of you, sometimes a little fashion-based boost can make all the difference.

One of the phrases you won’t find in a textbook for learners of Japanese is shoubu shitagi. Sure, a thorough text will cover shoubu, meaning “to challenge,”or “have a showdown,” and shitagi, the Japanese word for “underwear,” but their meaning when combined is something that most formal courses skip right over.

Shoubu shitagi is usually used in talking about lingerie, and refers to a matched bra and panties a woman wears when she wants to feel especially confident or otherwise powerful during an important event. In a recent poll by Japanese lingerie company >Wacoal, 31.7 percent of the respondents (out of a total pool of 1,100 women between the ages of 20 and 49) said that they have shoubu shitagi they wear for romantic dates. 51 percent of those surveyed also said they own a pair of shoubu shitagi for other occasions when they want a mental boost.

20-somethings reported the highest instance of wearing shoubu shitagi in the workplace, something that 48.3 percent said they’ve done to psych themselves up for a crucial meeting or critical project. Among work classifications, those employed in administrative roles had the highest rate of shoubu shitagi use, at 58.5 percent of those polled.

Researchers also noted a difference in shoubu shitagi preferences depending on purpose. While the same hues ended up as the three most popular for both romantic and business shobu shitagi, pink was the top choice among those wearing the special lingerie for a date, followed by black in second place and white in third. On the other hand, black was the number-one pick for workplace shoubu shitagi, trailed by pink, and then, once again in third place, white.

When the news was announced yesterday that Lady Gaga would be joining The Weeknd and Bruno Mars on the lineup of this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, fans immediately began wondering just what she’d wear onstage. After all, when it comes to event dressing, Gaga has never been one to hold back; pastel cowboy hats and sequined hot pants are an everyday thing for her.
