Victoria's Secret Accused of Designing 'Racist Lingerie'

Womenswear brand Victoria’s Secret has been accused of cultural appropriation and of designing “racist” lingerie by a lifestyle editor at Cosmopolitan magazine.

In an article, Helin Jung, executive lifestyle editor at the outlet, criticized what she called the “sexist, patriarchal, mostly white corporation” for its “brazen” perpetuation of “what is clearly cultural appropriation.”

Jung begins her critique by describing the Victoria’s Secret annual fashion show, which kicked off Wednesday in Paris.

“Models dressed in costumes fit for segments called ‘Dark Angel,’ ‘Secret Angel,’ and ‘Bright Night Angels’ stomped down the runway at the Grand Palais, showing off the sculpted results of their life’s work and ‘naturally’ enhanced hair,” Jung wrote.

After detailing the various designers, models, and entertainers showcased at the “multimillion-dollar televised panty parade,” Jung ominously warns, “But look closer and you’ll see that the golden glitter path is paved with unfortunate intentions.”

Jung’s biggest point of contention, apparently, is that while Victoria’s Secret’s appears to celebrate the world’s multicultural beauty through design and fashion, it is actually engaging in the “exploitation of these cultural references.”

“[D]on’t let yourself be hoodwinked by Victoria’s Secret’s brazen attempt to relabel what is clearly cultural appropriation by turning it into a celebration of ‘culture,'” Jung wrote. “The brand and its creative leads shamelessly cherry-picked imagery, breaking apart aesthetic references from wherever they wanted and stitching them back together again. They’re telling us it’s worldliness. It’s not; it’s a hack job.”

Jung rails against Chinese cultural appropriation, writing that “the emblems that stood out most were the ones that came from Asia â€" specifically China.”

But Jung also acknowledges that Nepalese  jewelry designer Arpana Rayamajhi created most of the work for the segment.

Jung firmly rejects Victoria’s Secret for its seemingly sincere attempt at appreciating the world’s cultures.

“With its positive, pre-emptive spin about globalization and multiculturalism, Victoria’s Secret seems to have anticipated my response,” Jung wrote. “The brand is leading with the notion that we’re all members of the human race, therefore everything belongs to everyone.”

Lidl launches lingerie range but can YOU tell the budget from the designer?

It's the budget supermarket that's lured savvy shoppers with its cut-price meat, organic produce and thrifty clothes.

But not one to rest on its laurels, Lidl is hoping to snare even more shoppers: by venturing into lingerie.

The German supermarket is launching its first Esmara Premium lingerie collection on December 18 - and shoppers can snap up a lingerie set for £10.

According to the store, the five-piece collection uses delicate lace detail and intricate prints to give the lingerie a luxury look and feel. 

'Available in various styles designed to suit all, customers can look and feel exceptional from top to bottom for as little as £10,' they promise.

There's a push-up bra for £5.99, which claims to add one-cup size to your bust, as well as floral camisoles and briefs for the same price.

So can you really tell the difference between budget supermarket and designer? We pit the purse-friendly offering against designer counterparts. 

On the pricier end of the spectrum is The Fifty Shades Darker lingerie by Coco de Mer, which promises to help women capture the 'inner goddess' of the film's protagonist, Anastasia Steele.

According to the store, the five-piece collection uses delicate lace detail and intricate prints to give the lingerie a luxury look and feel

On the pricier end of the spectrum is The Fifty Shades Darker lingerie by Coco de Mer (pictured: Alyssa Plunge Bra, £185, Alyssa Spanking Knicker, £135)

The collection, which is priced between £15-£60, includes a piece called Red Room - bordeaux satin with lace and silver componentry, inspired by the books' bondage room, Escala - an all over lace and contrasting satin piece inspired by Christian's modern penthouse, and Masquerade - a black satin piece with custom embroidery in shades of grey, inspired by the basque in the book. 

The sexy pieces are apparently inspired by the growth in sexual confidence of the books' heroine Ana and they are the first official products to be released ahead of the new movie.

Speaking about the new range, E L James said: 'Fifty Shades Darker lingerie really captures Ana's sexual awakening. It is luxurious, deeply provocative and elegantly erotic.' 

When compared with mid-range pieces, like a £34 bra from Bluebella and a £38 bra from Fantasie, it is hard to spot the difference between the supermarket and the celebrity-loved brands.

Chloe Madeley has shared a very racy video on Instagram as she is playfully tackled by her boyfriend James Haskell behind the scenes of a lingerie shoot.

The 29-year-old fitness fanatic wears a black lace bustier with stockings as her rugby hunk lays upon her, as she shouts: I'm gonna be sick.'

Hammering the point home further, she captioned the clip with the words: 'When he manhandles you and you want to vom.'

Hey, good looking: Chloe is keen on healthy eating and fitness and it certainly showed in her latest post 

Chloe looked incredible on the day, wearing a Nineties inspired choker for the short video.

And her man wore a very cheeky expression on his face as he couldn't keep his hands off the pretty blonde.

The latest post comes after Chloe revealed that despite her love of healthy food and working out in the gym, she doesn't deprive herself completely.

She admitted that even she enjoys a glass of wine on Thursday, after sharing a motivational throwback snap with fans on Instagram. 

The personal trainer, 29, impressed her followers once again by uploading a collage of her impeccably shredded abs and and strong limbs - but admitted that she is not quite as lean as this now, thanks to 'red wine'.

Posing in nothing but a sports bra and thong, the four-way collage flaunted her impressive, gym-honed physique for her 120,000 followers to see.

Facing to the front for three shots, the daughter of TV legends Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan showcased her rock hard and rippling stomach, with not an inch of fat in sight, as she tensed for the cameras. 

Pushing her chest up in the tight-fitting plunging bra, Chloe also displayed her ample cleavage and tiny waist in the first shot, only adding to the envy-inducing content of the post.

In the final shot, the blonde beauty hammered her flat stomach home once again by posing side on to the camera - with her strong muscle definition coming into focus. 

However showing off her more playful side in the caption, Chloe admitted that this is not her current body weight - but instead her motivation for the future, after enjoying a few indulgences recently as the cold weather kicks in.

She wrote to her followers:  'Throwback to when I was a #lean mean #training machine...I'm still a training machine but thanks to red wine not so lean!'

Honing their figures: Chloe showed off her gym honed body with a series of sexy stretches while directing the girls

Finishing the post in similar witty style, she added with determination: 'The next time I'll look like this will be February, until then...' before posting a number of wine glass emojis. 

Chloe moved in with her long-term boyfriend James Haskell back in September - which could be the reason for her more relaxed attitude to fitness. 

Talking to Closer magazine just before the move, the blonde revealed that it was the wining and dining from the comfort of their own home that she was looking forward to most - rather than their joint training sessions.

She said to the magazine: 'Moving in with your boyfriend is a big deal.

Chloe and the 31-year-old rugby player began dating in December 2014, after the Wasps sportsman pursued her on social media. 

The loved-up couple have since gone from strength to strength, with James recently admitting he had begun to think about marriage. 

James previously told the Daily Mirror: 'I was a bit of a player before I met her but she has 100% changed me.

'From the day I met her until now I have been completely happy, and 100% faithful.

'I can see myself staying with Chloe and obviously I’m 31 now so, yeah, the marriage stuff does cross my mind every now and then.'
