Bitcoin now Accepted for Lingerie Shopping

For the very first time, you can now use Bitcoins to purchase lingerie directly from a major lingerie website. This development opens more doors for Bitcoin-users and comes at a time when Bitcoin is gaining more significance in the world of commerce. Lila Williams, founder, and CEO of panties.com explains in an interview, why she opened her lingerie business to Bitcoin. She also chips in some wisdom, from her over 30 years of experience in the direct response and e-commerce business, about the future of Bitcoin.

Q: How did you come across Bitcoin?

Lila: I heard about Bitcoin a long time ago, but did not understand what it was. I think this is the problem with most people and the reason they are missing out on the amazing opportunities offered by Bitcoin.

On December 15th last year (2015), we received an email from Playboy, severing our advertising relationship of more than two decades. Playboy went 'Workplace Friendly' as of January 2016, and would no longer accept photo adverts of a model in a panty and bra. We consequently lost the majority of our revenue, and out of necessity, explored new avenues for business. I thought of Bitcoin, and after a careful analysis decided that accepting it would be a great addition, especially since no other lingerie e-commerce site is accepting it.

Q: How long did you advertise on Playboy?

Lila: We advertised on Playboy for 28 good years, and we were probably their most loyal advertiser.

Q: Is it true that you registered Panties.com as far back as 1994?

Lila: Yes, I did. We were actually the first business to sell lingerie on the Internet, even before Victoria's Secret. The Internet back then was not as colorful as it is today, but we made it work. I also invented the lingerie subscription service with Panty of the Month® in 1984. We were the first to sell lingerie on a monthly subscription basis. Back in the 80’s, it was very controversial. We ended up on CNN, MTV, USA Today and were profiled by the Wall Street Journal. I still have all the articles! It was a heady time.

Q: What exactly made you decide to accept Bitcoins on your website, panties.com?

Lila: I’m an open minded person, do not stick to old traditions, and try to keep up with new trends. I like to keep an eye on new developments. We were one of the first to have a fax machine for customers, to computerize a small business, and to put a web address in a print ad. People used to call me asking how we made money off the internet, and I told them to put their web address in their print ads. They were stunned, no one had thought of such a thing in 1994. Back then we actually had to put http://www.panties.com in the print ads.

Forward thinking was probably the reason we were the first to sell lingerie on the Internet, as well as now becoming the first lingerie business to integrate a Bitcoin payment gateway on our website, again beating Victoria's Secret in innovation. I see great potential in Bitcoins, and I'm convinced that it is the future. That is why we integrated it. We have accepted Bitcoin for over eight months now, but very few people avail themselves of this gateway because few people know where they can spend Bitcoin. So we have to get the word out.

Q: Why do you say that Bitcoin is the future?

Lila: From my opinion, the decentralization of transaction records, based on blockchain technology, puts Bitcoin beyond the total control of any central bank, thereby making it insusceptible to systematic inflation. Bitcoin is, therefore, a more perfect store of value than most national currencies of the world. I also see a very bright future for other blockchain-based applications as well.

Q: Do you currently have any ongoing offers or specials?

Bella Hadid Wore Lingerie-Inspired Bodysuit to Dinner

Bella Hadid, who will be making her Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show debut, showed off her lingerie style chops during a night on the town at Catch LA restaurant in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The model, 20, wore a black lingerie-inspired body suit with black jeans and a calf-length black coat. She accessorized her look with hoop earrings, strappy black pumps and a black choker with “Bella” written on it.

And it appears Hadid is ready to strip down even more later this year for the highly-anticipated fashion show, which airs on December 5 on CBS.

Last week, the creative team behind the show confirmed Hadid was booked for the annual event, to be held for the first time in Paris later this month. And on Saturday, PEOPLE got exclusive new details on the model’s VS debut at her fitting for the show at Victoria’s Secret New York headquarters. Hadid will wear two of the show’s 82 looks.

Kylie Jenner's Lingerie Selfies Don't Seem to Be Slowing Down Anytime Soon

If you were having lingerie selfie withdrawals from Kylie Jenner, you're in luck!

The 19-year-old, who is no stranger to sharing racy photos and videos on social media, took to Snapchat earlier today to post a short video clip of herself in the mirror wearing nothing but what looked to be a sheer black bra and matching underwear with thigh-high stockings.

The newly blond star didn't provide any context in that specific Snapchat (aside from a quick zoom, which we're sure everyone is grateful for), but judging from the background and other posts that followed and preceded this one, it seemed as though Kylie was at a destination for a shoot or fitting of some sort.

The last time we saw a similar snapshot was just a few days ago, when Kylie posed wearing nothing but a nude-colored bra and pantie lingerie ensemble by Fleur of England. Again, no caption was given, but also, a caption isn't necessary with photos like these.

The risqué photos have turned into a family hobby, with Kim Kardashian recently upping Kylie's lingerie pics. The 35-year-old mother of two recently stripped down for her own set of naked selfies shared on Snapchat. 

Kim, who has promoted flaunting her nude figure time and time again, posted two provocative photos and one video of herself getting bronzed in her Miami hotel room last week. A man's guide to buying lingerie for your partner.

This is the bras, corsets and sex-toy chain Honey Birdette, where former staff say they were given formal warnings or publicly shamed if they didn't wear heels high enough or lipstick red enough.

It's also where sexual harassment of staff by customers is persistent and widespread, ranging from leering and inappropriate comments to in-store masturbation and stalking.

The fast-growing shopping mall chain, set up in the wake of international brands Victoria's Secret and Agent Provocateur and part-owned by billionaire Brett Blundy, is selling a fantasy of feminist sexual emancipation. But staff say the reality for them is dangerous and exploitative workplace conditions.

Their story comes after revelations in Fairfax Media of the widespread sexual harassment of women by their customers, and the virtual inaction of regulatory authorities.

At Honey Birdette the problem starts, former workers say, with the recruitment process. Candidates are vetted for their looks via video interview or through their Instagram and Facebook profiles.

"They are looking for girls who take lots of photos of themselves and carry themselves in a way that is more exposed to the public; [girls] who are actively seeking that kind of acceptance and who they can mould into their ideal," says Nadelle, one of 10 former employees from three states who have spoken to Fairfax Media.

Once employed, "Honeys" must adhere to a strict uniform policy that includes high heels and skirts (trousers are banned), and items from current lingerie ranges â€" which staff must buy (at a discount). Specific "Hollywood starlet" make-up is also a requirement.

Ex-workers say they spent $150-$200 a week (up to a third of their after-tax income) conforming with the brand's uniform requirements. But handling boxes and climbing ladders to access stock was a daily hazard in the "uniform". One ex-worker said she left after injuring her back moving boxes while wearing a Honey Birdette corset.

A culture of surveillance included the daily selfies, as well as surprise visits and after-hours emails to make sure "Honeys" stayed back after closing, on unpaid time.

It is a culture many former workers say made them stressed and anxious. One said that, once on the way home from work, she had found herself weeping and hyperventilating in the emergency lane.

"I felt constantly watched, constantly on edge," says Alice* who worked for Honey Birdette in regional Queensland.

Alice once posted a photo of herself in a new "set" (bra, knickers, suspender belt and hosiery) to a staff group chat, only to find it in an Australia-wide company email the following week. "I was like, they just posted my boobs on the internet … no one asked me ... that was a bit confronting."

Adding to their vulnerability, many were rostered entire days on their own. Women say they were refused toilet and meal breaks because they were not allowed to close the shop. One says she urinated in an empty rubbish bin in desperation one day, another that she didn't drink, to limit her distress.

"I wouldn't eat for eight hours â€"  a few times I almost fainted," says former staffer Mabel.*

Among every 10 customers, about three were men, one of whom would invariably leer at them, or make sleazy remarks, the ex-workers say. Demeaning and intimidating behaviour was most frightening for those working unaccompanied.

One 19-year-old worked alone for a 6pm-to-6am shift during a pre-Christmas 36-hour shopping centre trading marathon. With other nearby retailers closed, she was "very intimidated" by drink and drug-affected male customers. Others talk of men pestering them with probing and personal comments or using the sex toys in the store to masturbate.

Honey Birdette management had no training in dealing with sexual harassment, the women say, nor formal complaint mechanisms. Managers would respond by advising staff to turn the behaviour into a sales opportunity: "They'd say, 'He's probably shy; just go with it, then they'll buy something'," one former employee, Jess, said.

Jess said she was stalked for almost a year by a customer who sat on a bench outside her store and stared at her day after day, and then found out where she lived. He later showed up near her home.

"I got no sympathy or support from work," Jess said.

When she went to court for a restraining order, Honey Birdette required her to take unpaid leave, and asked her to be as quick as possible because she was the best saleswoman.

The chain had a "Little Black Book" of rules for staff (which includes "Spank me if I'm wrong" among recommended phrases), and the company's sales handbook suggests selling women corsets "for the work Christmas party and have them all wondering where you kept those spectacular goodies hidden all year!"

Numerous women use the word "cult" or "brainwashing" to describe their experiences at the chain. Former managers talk of a revolving door of staff. 

Some staff were long-standing customers who say they were initially attracted to working at Honey Birdette for its stated goals of sex-positive and body-positive female power.

"Our Honeys are here to not only empower women but to entertain them," is one of the legends on the company website.

Tori Bellentina, a lingerie collector and blogger, was wooed by managers who had noticed her then-40,000 Instagram followers. But she refused to buy the brand's lingerie, arguing the work uniform should be supplied to workers for free. She also demanded to be paid for the time worked before and after the shop's opening hours, as required by the chain. She was "let go" after four months.

"You say you're empowering women, but you also say I need to tell customers to spank me," says Kate, who worked for the company for two years.

Honey Birdette declined to comment.

On Thursday, a campaign by former workers, co-ordinated by the Young Workers Centre staged protests outside a Melbourne Honey Birdette store. A petition calling on Honey Birdette to cease sexist workplace practices and stop encouraging harassment by customers attracted 5400 signatures towards a target of 6000 in its first week.

Discrimination experts say the allegations of unpaid work, dangerous conditions, bullying and harassment potentially breach the retail workers award and numerous workplace and safety laws.
